Thesis:"Interpretation of electronic spectra of Bi(I) in
molten salt media with Angular Overlap Model", Plovdiv University,
Plovdiv, 1989 (in Bulgarian). Summary: The
electronic spectra of Bi(I) compounds in molten salt media have been investigated
with the aid of Angular Overlap Model (AOM). Three possible structures
of BiX32- (X = Cl, Br) complexes -- planar
(with the symmetry D3h) and two pyramidal (C2v, C3v)
ones, were tested. The planar structures gave the best fit between the
experimental spectra and those calculated with AOM spectra.

Thesis: "Application of chemometric methods for identification
of organic compounds from their infrared spectra.", Plovdiv, Bulgaria,
1998 (in Bulgarian). Summary:The purpose of
the present dissertation is to design a complex program system for identification
of organic compounds from their infrared spectra. In the dissertation (1)
are formulated the main limitations of infrared spectra interpretation;
(2) is described the program implementation of 7 library search routines
which were tested for an identification search; (3) is developed a regression
method for analysis of infrared spectra of organic compounds' mixtures;
(4) is applied a method for analysis of hit-list compound structures using
the concepts of maximum common substructure; (5) the model of artificial
neural networks is explored and compared with linear discriminant analysis.
The explored and developed methods are implemented in a complex program
system for infrared spectra interpretation. The system works under Windows
environment.

Summary:
The
main topic and aim of the dissertation is the development, programming,
application and implementation of various mathematical methods for interpretation
of UV/Vis, IR, Raman, 13C NMR and mass spectra of organic compounds. As
a result of the work on the dissertation several spectral libraries were
created of hundreds of UV/Vis, IR, ATR, Raman and 13C-NMR spectra
of organic compounds measured in our laboratory. Several spectral libraries
of spectra measured in other institutions were also created. Seven algorithms
for library search of IR and Raman spectra were programed and tested. A
method for qualitative analysis of IR and Raman mixture spectra is developed.
Two methods–a k-nearest neighbors and maximum common substructure–were
developed and applied to structurally evaluate library search results.
A method for interpretive library search in a database of assigned 13C
NMR spectra is proposed and programed, and it is thoroughly tested for
interpretation of natural compounds’ spectra. The relation between spectral
and structural similarity is studied for IR and Raman spectra. The 1H
and 13C spectra of six organic compounds are fully assigned.
